Chess Club
Purpose: Chess club exists to learn the game, and through it to love others in competition. The goal is not to be the best or to be smart. The goal is to learn how to play to the best of one's ability and to grow in understanding others, the world around us, one's self, and God. Win or lose, may we always do so gracefully and learn from the challenge of the game.
Character Formation: Life consists of planning, choosing, and bearing the consequences of choices. The game of chess encapsulates this reality and develops several key virtues and skills in a person. Chess grows the skills of long-term planning, being patient with others, and strategy formation. God has given us the incredible ability to plan into the future. As such, chess can develop an appreciation of this gift and love of neighbor.
